Southeastern Medical Oncology Center - Jacksonville and Wilson

Project Scope:

Southeastern Medical Oncology Center (SMOC) is an established leader in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in eastern North Carolina. Hobbs Architects has built a strong relationship with SMOC through the design of SMOC medical offices located in five different North Carolina Cities. The growing medical practice of SMOC commissioned Hobbs Architects to design new medical offices in Jacksonville and Wilson, North Carolina2012. Both offices are nearing completion and will be occupied by July 2013.

Each office provides facilities for three physicians, a full staff of nurses and technicians, and space for lab work and chemo-therapy treatment. The sites were selected due to their close proximity to local hospitals. Due to restrictive site conditions at the Jacksonville location the building has two stories for staff and patients. The Wilson office provides space for patients and staff on the ground floor which allows for a series of clerestory windows to line the perimeter allowing daylight to illuminate the main interior corridors. At both locations exam rooms, nurse stations, and doctor’s offices are arranged in pods for efficient work flow. The Chemo Treatment areas feature large exterior windows with views to an outdoor garden, intended to bring in a natural setting and a feeling of peace into the space.
